The director of Wonder Woman, Patty Jenkins, has revealed more details on a spin-off movie in development, which will be set in the Amazons.

The second movie, Wonder Woman 1984, hasn’t even been released yet, but fans are already hoping for a spin-off to Wonder Woman to arrive on screens soon.

Patty Jenkins, who has directed both of the movies so far, has finally given an update on what’s in the works.

Will there be a Wonder Woman spin-off?

It was first rumored in 2019 that there would be a spin-off movie based on the Amazons, but little else has been said about the movie since then.

In an interview with Geek Magazine (as shared via Reddit), Patty Jenkins addressed where the spin-off was in terms of development.

“This is a story that Geoff Johns and I came up with and then introduced to Warner,” said the director.

“The events of this story take place after Diana leaves Themyscira, the Island of the Amazons, and there are some twists and turns linked to what will happen between Wonder Woman 1984 and Wonder Woman 3.”

She didn’t give anything else away about the project, but did confirm that production on it was yet to officially start.

Ending on a promising note, Jenkins said: “…I hope we get it because I love this story!”

The director’s success with Wonder Woman will inevitably open up more doors to expand on the story, showing the potential a female-led superhero movie can have in enhancing a franchise.

Though it seems to be very much in the early stages of development, the spin-off movie could offer yet another fresh take on the DCEU while also building a bridge between two Wonder Woman movies.

Wonder Woman 1984 is set to be released in both theaters and on HBO Max to stream simultaneously, as a result of the ongoing health crisis.

The movie will be released on December 25 in the US and will have a staggered release in other countries from December 16.
