Joel and Ellie in HBO's The Last of Us

The Last of Us Season 2 is about to get underway, and according to a new report, an iconic star from Home Alone and Schitt’s Creek may be joining the cast.

HBO’s acclaimed video game adaptation, led by Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin, is about to kick off production on its highly anticipated (if a little dreaded) second season.

Kaitlyn Dever was recently confirmed to play Abby, perhaps the franchise’s most infamous character, after months of speculation. Beef’s Young Mazino has also been tapped to play Jesse, while Isabel Merced will portray Diana. High-profile TV directors have also been enlisted to helm several episodes, including Loki’s Kate Herron and Succession’s Mark Mylod.

With speculation surrounding how the second season will adapt the original sequel – and if that moment will remain intact – it’s now been reported that another A-lister could be set to appear.

The Last of Us Season 2 eyes Catherine O’Hara for new role

Catherine O’Hara is reportedly in talks to star in The Last of Us Season 2, according to scooper Daniel Richtman.

The actress, known for her roles in the Home Alone movies, Beetlejuice, and Schitt’s Creek, would be playing an entirely new character: Gail, who’d appear for three episodes. It’s unclear if she’d be a friend or foe to Joel and Ellie, nor are there any details about when and where she’d come into Part 2’s epic story.

This isn’t unprecedented for the series, given its changes to the source material in the first season; notably, it added Melanie Lynskey’s Kathleen, the leader of Pittsburgh’s Hunters with a connection to Henry (Lamar Johnson) and Sam (Keivonn Montreal Woodard).

In a recent interview with GamesRadar, Bella Ramsey (who plays Ellie) said they were “incredibly happy with who has been cast.”

“It’s exciting for me. I’m happy to have a whole new bunch of people come and join the family. It’s gonna be a lot of fun.”

Pedro Pascal (Joel) also teased to Deadline that they’re “always going to find ways to build on the incredible source material that they have, and surprise us with how they can use that material in a different format like a television show.”

However, he added that he “wouldn’t want to spoil it for anybody… and the truth is, I don’t actually have all of the information as of yet.”
