Stanger Things fans have started kicking around theories about which of their beloved character will get the axe in Season 5, and some are convinced that it won’t be the popular choice Will, but another fan favorite.

Stanger Things fans are chomping at the bit for more content as Season 5 of the show is currently filming. Viewers have been given hints from the writers and actors about what is coming to their screens sometime in 2024/25, like episode titles and set photos, but nothing concrete to latch onto in terms of the upcoming narrative.

Season 4 of the show ended with massive changes for multiple characters and its central location, Hawkins, Indiana. The town has been largely destroyed by huge chasms that opened up thanks to Vecna and Sam is in a coma following her showdown after being brought back from the dead by Eleven.

With the show coming to a close in Season 5, fans are expecting to have to deal with multiple deaths from its extended cast. Some have started to theorize that Will is set to go to his grave, but now fans have become convinced that another character is set to fall instead.

Stranger Things Season 5 death fan theories

The fandom was pointed towards thinking about killing off long-running cast members thanks to Gaten Matarazzo, who plays Dustin Henderson. The star suggested that one of the main cast should get axed early on to establish just how serious the current threat, Vecna, as the show reaches its final hours.

Fans immediately started thinking that Will, thanks to Noah Schnapp’s recent controversy, would be the one to die to get the actor out of the show early on.

However, a post on the Stranger Things Reddit has swayed many to think that the writers will instead kill off Murray Bauman, who has been around since the second season.

“Murray would definitely be the best bet. He’s a main character and he’s been there since S2 so it would add some stakes if they killed him off in the middle of the season,” one fan said.

“The only characters who are in the main cast and who aren’t villains who I could pick to die are him and Owens. I would really miss him of course,” another said.

The character’s death would also track for fans the actor portraying him, Brett Gelman, has come out in support of Schnapp over his controversy and isn’t considered an integral part of the overall show.
