Spider-Man 4 “dispute” details emerge as Sony “fights” Marvel

Spider-Man 4 is reportedly becoming a bit of a battleground between Sony and Marvel, with development continually hindered by behind-the-scenes “disputes.”

In February 2015, Sony finally reached an agreement with Marvel Studios that’d allow Spider-Man to join the MCU. He made his debut in the form of Tom Holland in Captain America: Civil War, before appearing in the Infinity War/Endgame two-hander and his own hugely successful trilogy.

However, a fourth film (uncharted territory for the web-slinger on the big screen) is proving difficult to get over the line, with rumored disagreements about its creative direction.

With speculation ramping up, especially as Daredevil: Born Again continues filming, a new report suggests that Sony is trying to “rush” the next entry.

Spider-Man 4 causes divide between Sony and Marvel

According to insider Daniel Richtman, Sony and Marvel can’t seem to get on the same page about Spider-Man 4.

“I can also confirm that Sony wants to rush Spider-Man 4 no matter what,” he wrote. “Amy Pascal wants Kevin Feige involved in a future Miles movie. Tom Rothman is the one who is fighting Feige on what to do with Spider-Man 4 and he’s the one trying to rush it. He also wants Watts back to direct while Feige wants someone new and to have Watts on other projects.”

Other reports have claimed the movie will set up Avengers: The Kang Dynasty (or whatever it ends up being called), but it’s unclear if it’ll be a “street-level Civil War” with Daredevil and co. or another multiversal adventure with the other Spideys (or, *shudder*, Sony’sroster of characters like Madame Web, Morbius, and maybe even Venom).

Reacting to the rumors, one Redditor wrote: “Tom Rothman is an existential threat to the future of the Spider-Man franchise. Rothman has nothing but contempt for comics and comic book movies.”

“Tom Rothman is still this genre’s biggest villain,” another commented. “Spider-Man 4 will be stuck in development hell till 2026 I’m calling it,” a third wrote. “I hope Tom Holland starts throwing his weight around a bit. Don’t let Rothman destroy this movie,” a fourth added.
