Dev Patel and Jordan Peele have teamed up to create a slick action movie, with fans stating that the trailer resembles “John Wick in Mumbai.”

Dev Patel… where have you been? It’s felt like a long while since fans have properly enjoyed his talents on screen, having most recently made a brief appearance in the Wes Anderson short The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar.

On the other hand, Jordan Peele has only been gaining more traction, with horror flick Nope still leaving a terrifying taste in the mouths of its viewers.

Now the two have joined forces to make an all-out action flick, with many stating that the trailer already resembles “John Wick in Mumbai.”

Dev Patel has taken to the director’s chair for his latest movie Monkey Man, produced by Get Out mastermind Jordan Peele.

The movie’s official synopsis reads: “After years of suppressed rage, Kid discovers a way to infiltrate the enclave of the city’s sinister elite. As his childhood trauma boils over, his mysteriously scarred hands unleash an explosive campaign of retribution to settle the score with the men who took everything from him.”

Thanks to the action sequence in the trailer showing Patel shooting his way through throes of gunmen, people have been quick to make comparisons to the John Wick franchise, with some describing it as “John Wick in Mumbai.”

“Y’all I did NOT expect Monkey Man to be an ACTION movie??? Idk why but I really thought it would be some somber drama but instead we got Indian John Wick!!???!?” one user posted on X/Twitter.

“Yoooo…Dev Patel: action star and Brahim Chab’s fight choreography look slick as hell,” another chimed in.

For hardened action fans, the film features fight choreography by Brahim Chab, who is best known for his work with Jackie Chan, Scott Adkins, Donnie Yen, and Nicholas Tse.

Additional cast includes Sharlto Copley, Sobhita Dhulipala, Pitobash, Vipin Sharma, Ashwini Kalsekar, Adithi Kalkunte, Sikandar Kher, and Makarand Deshpande.

“Starring Dev Patel, action hero Dev Patel AND directed by Dev Patel!!?!! I need to sit down I’m seeing stars,” another user added, with a fourth commenting, “Holy sh*t this looks fantastic and incredible work by @JordanPeele. To be a true champion of cinema and theatrical by rescuing this from the depths of @netflix hell and give it a wide release. Dev Patel’s acting and directing looks kick ass.”

Monkey Man is due to head to theaters on April 5, 2024. The movie was originally heading to Netflix, but is now being released through Monkeypaw’s existing deal with Universal.
