Only Murders in the Building star Martin Short has addressed rumors with series co-star Meryl Streep after the show’s finale.

Only Murders in the Building is one of Hulu’s biggest original series as it’s run through three seasons since it first premiered in 2021.

Starring Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez, the show focuses in on a trio of true crime lovers who create their own podcast after someone in their building is murdered.

While each season of OMitB has its own A-list guest stars, Season 3 raises the stakes by casting Meryl Streep as Short’s love interest and now, after the show’s finale has aired, Short has addressed the romance rumors surrounding the duo.

Short denies all claims of romance between him and Streep

During Only Murders in the Building Season 3, Oliver Putnum (Short) is swept up in a whirlwind romance with his Broadway play star Loretta Durkin (Streep).

Because of their palpable chemistry and intense love story on screen, many fans wondered if the duo were dating in real life, but Short has come out to finally put those rumors to bed.

“We’re not a couple. We are just very close friends,” Short explained while appearing on Bill Maher‘s Club Random podcast.

Rumors surrounding a potential real-life relationship between the two were only accelerated after the pair were seated next to one another during the Golden Globes, which is a universal industry sign that a pair could be dating.

However, Maher went on to say that the two actors should think about starting up a romance as “there’s nothing more powerful in Hollywood than a power couple.”
