Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima surprises fans with an aggressively positive review of the MCU’s Moon Knight.

It’s a pretty good time to be Hideo Kojima. The Metal Gear Solid creator is soaring off the success of Death Stranding and the hype for his next games, including OD, Physint, and the upcoming sequel Death Stranding 2: On the Beach.

That success has led to a new documentary, Hideo Kojima: Connecting Worlds, which has recently hit Disney+. The documentary explores Kojima’s career as a game designer and visionary in the gaming industry.

Kojima revealed in a recent tweet he’s now signed up for Disney+ to watch his documentary, but he had to do something for himself first.

Hideo Kojima loved Oscar Isaac’s Moon Knight performance

In a move that might surprise fans, Kojima’s first order of business on Disney+ wasn’t watching his own documentary. Instead, he watched the first episode of the MCU’s Moon Knight.

“I joined Disney Plus to watch the documentary, so I immediately watched the first episode.” Kojima said of the MCU series in a tweet. “What a surprise! This is so original!”

Originally released in 2022, Moon Knight has been one of the more divisive MCU projects in recent history. While it was critically well-received, with an audience average of 89% on Rotten Tomatoes as of this writing, many fans had issues with its pacing and performances.

Kojima has no such reservations, though. In fact, he praised the work of star Oscar Isaac, who played multiple roles in the series.

“Above all, the main character, Stephen, is lonely and weak. I had never imagined such a pathetic and unattractive Oscar Isaac.” Kojima says in his tweet. “But this is the good thing. Oscar Isaac succeeds in taking on this difficult role. Excellent casting. I am looking forward to seeing more.”

Of course, it is worth noting that the praise may be salt in the wound for some fans, given how long Isaac was attached to star as Kojima’s most popular character, Solid Snake, in a Metal Gear Solid film. (Isaac has since left that project, which is in development hell.)

Moon Knight Season 2 is currently long-rumored, with Isaac himself leading much of the hype. At a recent convention appearance, he went so far as to suggest a Midnight Sons crossover. However, a second season is not yet confirmed.
