AMD has confirmed that its plans for the Zen 5 architecture CPU chips remain on track, and is anticipating the roll-out of the first product using Zen 5 to begin in the second half of 2024.

It has been over two years since AMD introduced its first Zen 4 products to the market, and tech industry analysts have been keen to see how the company will follow up on its success. The long wait may finally be coming to an end in 2024 according to reports from an AMD earning call, which indicated that the new architecture chips are expected to launch in the latter half of this year.

Most of the attention has been focused on AMD’s consumer desktop line of processors, as the company has not introduced a new product to that line since the Ryzen 7000X3D series early in 2023. The 7000X3D series has been a huge success amongst consumers and is even listed as Dexerto’s pick for best gaming CPU. Its successor is therefore hotly anticipated.

Zen5 CPUs expected in late 2024

There are no details of which product from the Zen5 range will be launched first, though most analysts and journalists, such as VideoCardz seem to expect it will be a desktop Granite Ridge or a mobile Strix Point. Since AMD has also stated its intention to keep the AM5 socket for the foreseeable future, it is likely to keep the same pin layout as well.

The information comes from a report by Paul Alcorn of Tom’s Hardware made during AMD’s Q4 2023 earning call. AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su was quoted as saying: “Strix combines our next-gen Zen5 core with enhanced RDNA graphics and an updated Ryzen AI engine to significantly increase performance, energy efficiency, and AI capabilities of PCs. Customer momentum for Strix is strong with the first notebooks on track to launch later this year.”

In a related rumor, hardware leaker Kepler suggested on Twitter/X that the Zen5 version of the Ryzen X3D series would be expected in early 2025, with a reveal at CES 2025.
