Captain Sandy Yawn is not everyone’s cup of tea, but for Below Deck Med newcomer Jessika Asai, she is her mentor in the yachting industry.

Throughout the years of being a leader on Below Deck Mediterranean, Captain Sandy Yawn is not exactly known for striking a good chord with her crew members and the viewers.

Not only have fans labeled her as the worst captain in the BD franchise, but some of her former co-stars have also spoken up against her.

From Chief Stewardess Hannah Ferrier alleging that Sandy didn’t like her from the get-go, to not even Captain Lee Rosbach returning her calls, she has been in some hot water.

Yet, there are a few Below Deck members who are in support of the yachting star, one being Season 8’s Jessika Asai.

Does Below Deck Med’s Jessika like Captain Sandy?

On October 24, Jessika spoke with Hawaii-based outlet Big Island Now to discuss the eighth season. During this, the reality TV star made sure to rave about her boss Captain Sandy.

Jessika said, “She really set the bar for women in the industry. I was just so in awe and inspired by her that now I’m actually considering getting my captain’s license here in the islands.”

Who knows? If she actually goes through with the licensing and becomes a captain, we might have a Below Deck Hawaii on our hands in the coming years.

As for now, viewers get to see Jessika shine in Season 8 of Med under the leadership of both Captain Sandy and Tumi Mhlongo. So far, she hasn’t gotten into any on-screen disagreements with the cast or the charter guests, quickly making her a fan-favorite of the season. Hopefully, her non-confrontational personality will continue to stay true.
