Leyline of the Guildpact is a new MTG Murders at Karlov Manor card that is primed for Commander players.

MTG Murders at Karlov Manor is introducing a new take on one of Ravnica’s most well-known themes.

Leyline of the Guildpact is a multicolored permanent that does its best work in five-color decks. When Leyline of the Guildpact is active, all permanents controlled by its player are every mana color, and lands controlled by that player are every basic land type.

How Leyline of the Guildpact adds to MTG decks

Mana fixing is a key component of decks with unwieldier mana bases, and Leyline of the Guildpact is an intriguing new way to solve this issue.

Many popular recent WUBRG decks like Tom Bombadil utilize green as the most prevalent color in their mana base. Leyline of the Guildpact may be trickier to pull off than other five-color mana fixers like Cascading Cataracts, but green players just need to amass a few forests to get this thing going.

Why Leylines are good in MTG

Leyline is a specific category of card unique to Ravnica. Each Leyline offers a powerful effect once it hits the field, but oftentimes they are balanced out by being somewhat mana-costly.

Leylines are useful because each of them shares an ability similar to Miracle. Miracle allows players to cast a card for a reduced cost if it is the first card drawn that turn.

Leylines’ abilities are both more restrictive and more powerful than Miracle. If a player begins the game with a Leyline card in their opening hand, that player may begin the game with the Leyline already active on the battlefield. This ability not only allows for the casting of a costly and powerful spell for free, but it also prevents that spell from being countered by opponents going first.

The usefulness of Leylines then relies somewhat on luck, making them a favorite among gamble-prone MTG players. Careful planning and tactics are all well and good, but sometimes it just feels great to topdeck exactly the card you need at the right moment.

Leyline of the Guildpact builds on one of Ravnica’s key themes, proving that this plane can be revisited time and time again without losing any of its lustre.
