TSM re-signs star mid laner Bjergsen in “unprecedented” deal

Storied League of Legends pro Søren ‘Bjergsen’ Bjerg has re-signed with Team SoloMid in a deal that will heavily incorporate the player in the company’s future.

TSM has been a traditional fixture in the League of Legends Champion Series (LCS). While the team’s struggles since 2018 have been uncharacteristic from what fans expect, it looks like the org could be on the verge of a strong revival.

One of the first steps to that point is locking down the mid laner that’s been through the highs and lows with TSM. While the build up to the announcement was confusing for everyone, it ultimately led to big news.

Bjergsen has completed a 2-year deal with his longtime club, which reportedly comes packaged with ownership shares in the team, according to Launcher.

“I knew I wanted to continue to work with TSM and add value to the company,” Bjerg told Launcher. “And this move means that I can continue to not only represent TSM as a player, but also be a part of the entire organization as we strive to achieve new heights in gaming, media and tech.”

Just like the TSM owner and midlaner before him Andy ‘Reginald’ Dinh, Bjergsen will be an owner for the team he represents when the 2020 season kicks off next year. The unique blend of leadership on and off the Rift could be what the embattled org needs to get back to being a championship contender.

The 23-year-old will now be looking forward to reinvigorating TSM as a part-owner, which will now be backed by the club’s upcoming esports facility.

“What will be different next year is having the facility,” Bjergsen said. “Which is going to be a really big change, but one that will really fuel a lot of motivation and fire in me and the team.”

TSM last won a North American title in 2017, when they took first place in both the Spring and Summer Splits. They have been a top five team in past years, but haven’t been able to pull off strong finishes like they used to.

The team narrowly missed their trip to Worlds 2019 after a 3-2 series loss to Clutch Gaming in the LCS Regional finals. They ended their 2019 Spring and Summer splits in third and fourth, respectively.

In the build up for their October 14 announcement, TSM’s official Twitter account posted an image of their mid laner waving with a caption: “Thank you Bjergsen.”

It was a long 40 minutes before fans were able to let out a sigh of relief as TSM revealed that they were actually thanking Bjerg for re-signing with them, along with taking a bit more stock in the team he’s playing for.

With a championship-caliber player in Bjergsen having more responsibilities under his belt, TSM will hope to get back to their winning ways soon.
