What is the ketchup test on TikTok

A new relationship test called the ketchup test has gone viral on TikTok, as thousands of people make videos asking their partners to clean up spilled ketchup from counters. But what does it mean?

Over the last couple of years, TikTok has become the launching point for a number of social media trends. Though, the most popular of these have often revolved around putting your relationship with your family or significant other to the test.

The orange peel test and the “name a woman” test are some that have taken the app by storm recently, with people filming themselves asking their partners to peel an orange for them, or simply to name a woman in attempts to go viral.

TikTok users have now come up with a new relationship test called the ketchup test, which has gained over 43.4 million views on the platform. But what is it?

What is the purpose of TikTok’s ketchup test?

The ketchup test has become the newest relationship trend to take TikTok by storm and includes someone squirting ketchup onto the kitchen counter only to ask their partner, or another male in their lives, to clean it up.

A lot of people manage to pass the test and clean up all of the ketchup from the counters, however some people struggled more than others with the seemingly simple task.

The trend originates from a video by TikTok user katherinee_310, who posted a video of her fiance cleaning up some hot sauce that she’d spilled on the kitchen counter.

The man is seen using kitchen roll to clean up the sauce, but spread out the sauce all over the counter before finally getting it cleaned.

In order to clean up spilled ketchup, you need some cleaning experience as well as some common sense, as it’s easy to just spread it around rather than actually cleaning it up.

Some TikTok commenters are arguing that if the men who are being tested fail to clean it up and instead just rubs around the ketchup into the surface, it should be seen as veponized incompetenze. This basically means that they try to be bad at something on purpose in order to not be asked to do it again.

However, TikTok user Jareen Imam made her own video about this, arguing that whether or not someone can clean up spilled ketchup should be seen as a fun test instead of something to determine whether or not their relationship is good.

“I think what the ketchup test proves is that cleaning is work, and that work should not be minimzied,” she said in the video.

“I think these tests can be fun if you don’t take them too seriously, because sometimes your partner might not get it right, but it doesn’t mean that they’re a bad person.
