How Jynxzi became Twitch’s biggest streamer against all odds

Twitch streamer Jynxzi streamed to 1 viewer for a year straight, before his rapid and remarkable rise to the very top of the charts.

It’s exceptionally rare for a new streamer to start a channel on Twitch, and within only a couple years, make a living from it. It’s even rarer to become the biggest streamer on the whole website in that timeframe – impossible even.

Despite this, one streamer has actually pulled it off – Jynxzi.

In the post-Ninja era of Twitch (anything past 2018), new streamers find it increasingly difficult to find an audience.

Indeed, Jynxzi streamed to an average of 1 viewer for the whole of 2019, despite being live for as much as 150 hours in some months. Even in 2020, when a few more viewers joined, he rarely eclipsed 50 concurrents.

So, how, in under 24 months, has Jynxzi gone from less than 1,000 average viewers, to over 50,000, and boasting the most subs and followers gained on all of Twitch, at the start of 2024?

Most remarkably, Jynxzi has achieved this despite streaming only one game exclusively, and not a particularly popular game on Twitch at that, Rainbow Six Siege.

In fact, the Rainbow Six category is so unpopular on Twitch, that the next most-watched channel in it is called “jynxiiwaitingroom” – where fans gather when he is offline.

Jynxzi streams in a very unpopular Twitch category, but he dominates it.

The game itself boasts a loyal following, but it’s far from the bigger shooter titles like Valorant, CS2, or even the battle royales like Fortnite, Warzone, and Apex Legends.

Despite all of this, the entertainment and creativity of his streams have made Jynxzi a star. Now, other streamers are copying his unique content ideas, with challenges such as playing against a viewer in every rank.

These unique pieces of content make Jynxzi’s streams more structured, but are also off-the-cuff, with viewers never really knowing what to expect on any given stream. He even has other big streamers trying out R6, signaling him as a trendsetter already.

To make all of this even more impressive, he hasn’t had to ride the coattails of other big channels to get his name out there. Most cases of rapidly rising streamers on Twitch are thanks to a collaboration with an already-established name.

However, until recently, Jynxzi rarely interacted with other streamers on the platform, big or small.

As a result, his rise to the top of the Twitch charts, with over 100,000 subscribers and fast approaching 4 million followers, is one of the purest the site has ever seen. An entertaining streamer, a niche game, a fresh approach, exciting content ideas, and a little bit of hype.

It’s a story that flies in the face of the common advice given to aspiring streamers, that the route to the top is closed off unless you can attach yourself to a more popular streamer, or make your name on another platform like TikTok or YouTube first.
