CBSEven though Young Sheldon is set before The Big Bang Theory, it came well after, with one “embarrassing” detail now overlooked.
With fans waiting for Young Sheldon Season 7 Episode 3 to hit the small screen this week, details surrounding how the show will finish have been more hotly contested than ever.
While the Cooper family is dealing well with the aftermath of Season 6’s tornado, Sheldon and Mary are making the best of life over in Germany.
However, now that one huge plot detail has been called into question, Young Sheldon still seems to be glossing over one “embarrassing” Big Bang Theory detail.

Fans of Young Sheldon have always been bothered by inconsistencies in The Big Bang Theory, with attention now turning to how Sheldon has remembered his father’s affair.
Fans of The Big Bang Theory will know that George Cooper Snr. supposedly had an affair with an asas-yet-unknown woman because of Sheldon’s recollections of the event. However, this doesn’t hugely stack up with Young Sheldon. Other than fleeting moments it is alluded that George could have cheated, nothing solid has happened, and certainly nothing Sheldon could have seen.
The storyline also has limited mileage due to George’s impending death – meaning that any clarification needs to come sooner rather than later.
One fan posted on Reddit “Everyone is saying that he already cheated when he had the heart attack but technically he didn’t cheat on her yet. Will he cheat on her in the future (with Brenda) or another person or is this what is meant by he cheated on her?”
“We might not see it at all, the narration in ys feels like he’s dictating an autobiography. My guess is he simply omitted that embarrassing detail, otherwise it should have happened a while ago,” another reasoned.
Others reference the writers supposedly deciding against the storyline altogether. “If we’re going off the timeline given to us by adult Sheldon in TBBT, the cheating was supposed to already happen during his most recent spring break. I’m assuming the writers decided against that storyline, but it’s like I always tell other people, you’re more than free to believe it happened off-screen,” one fan mused.
Speaking to TV Line in 2022, series co-creator Steve Molaro explained “We don’t have a precise roadmap in front of us – and to some extent, we don’t feel handcuffed to things that were said on Big Bang. I mean, there are some things that we will honor, but we also have to do what’s best for this series.”
