It’s only just been announced, but Netflix’s Ransom Canyon is already generating plenty of fan hype. Here’s everything you need to know about where it will be filmed.

There are certainly repetitive themes when it comes to the most popular TV shows of the last few years, with family drama, heavy romance, and a hefty dose of traumatic situations all topping the list.

It’s these ingredients that make shows such as Virgin River, Yellowstone, and Young Sheldon all highly bingeable – with a new Netflix show now looking to join the fold.

With Ransom Canyon officially announced by the streaming platform, where will the series be filmed? Here’s everything you need to know.

Where will Ransom Canyon be filmed?

Ransom Canyon is rumored to be filmed in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Although at this stage nothing is officially confirmed, it is a slight change from where the series is actually supposed to be set – in Texas.

Little is known about the series yet, but that hasn’t stopped fans from getting excited. The series will be comprised of 10 episodes, though production times and details have yet to be revealed.

Ransom Canyon has been pitched by the streaming platform as “Yellowstone meets Virgin River,” with Netflix’s head of drama and development Jinny How telling Deadline “It’s a contemporary Western romance show, just looking for more in this comfort romance space. It’s a multi-generational family show set on a ranch, and we say it’s Virgin River meets Yellowstone.

“We think that it’s going to deliver on all the romance and again it will be a really beautiful vista and setting, very escapist. It is in development in early stages, but we’re very excited about it; it feels very promising.”

The show’s official synopsis reads “Ransom Canyon is a romance-fueled family drama and contemporary Western saga that charts the intersecting lives of three ranching families, all set against the rugged expanse of Texas Hill Country.”

Based on the books of the same name by Jodi Thomas, Josh Duhamel, and Minka Kelly are currently set to lead the cast. Their characters are described as “steadfast and stoic” Staten Kirkland, preoccupied with what is “threatening his way of life and the land that he loves,” and concert pianist Quinn who “often found herself in the shadow of others.”
