Netflix is soon set to get a brand-new original love story – but when is Ransom Canyon out? Here’s everything you need to know.

Following in the footsteps of Virgin River isn’t an easy task, but it’s one that Netflix seems to be up for tackling. In recent years, the streaming platform has made moves including distributing Hallmark hits such as Chesapeake Shores, to creating follow-on originals like My Life with the Walter Boys.

With both methods proving to be successful, Netflix‘s attention has now turned to Ransom Canyon – a project that they have recently announced.

As hype already begins to generate, when is Ransom Canyon out on Netflix? Here’s everything we know so far.

When is Ransom Canyon out on Netflix?

Netflix has not yet confirmed an official release date for Ransom Canyon, but it’s expected to drop in late 2024.

Casting and production have only just been announced, meaning that fans could be waiting a while for episodes to appear on their screens.

Pitched as “Yellowstone meets Virgin River,” Ransom Canyon will be comprised of 10 episodes, all based on the hit book series penned by author Jodi Thomas.

According to the official synopsis, “Ransom Canyon is a romance-fueled family drama and contemporary Western saga that charts the intersecting lives of three ranching families, all set against the rugged expanse of Texas Hill Country.”

In an interview with Deadline, Netflix’s head of drama and development Jinny Howe commented: “It’s a contemporary Western romance show, just looking for more in this comfort romance space. It’s a multi-generational family show set on a ranch, and we say it’s Virgin River meets Yellowstone.

“We think that it’s going to deliver on all the romance and again it will be a really beautiful vista and setting, very escapist. It is in development in early stages, but we’re very excited about it; it feels very promising.”

Little else is known about the series at this stage, with Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly heading the cast.

“I’m here for the early 2000s thirst trap revival,” one fan posted on Reddit in response to the news, with a second weighing in: “Let me guess, it’ll be the sexier soap opera version of Yellowstone.”

“Josh Duhamel was one of the actually decent parts of that dead space wannabe game – Callisto Protocol. Been fond of his acting since his small role as the army guy in the first Transformers movie,” a third fan added.
