Despite only appearing in one MCU film 14 years ago, Sam Rockwell has revealed that he’s ready and willing to jump back into the role.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has seen its fair share of one movie performances from fantastic actors, but no one has seemed to top Sam Rockwell’s over-the-top, scene stealing role in Iron Man 2.

In the film, Rockwell plays Justin Hammer, a weapons manufacturer who breaks Ivan Vanko/Whiplash out of prison in order to develop a line of armored suits that he hoped to use to upstage Tony Stark’s Iron Man suit.

While technically Rockwell’s role was more “villain of the week” than a longstanding rival, he’s still willing to reprise his role for a future MCU film.

Rockwell is waiting by the phone to reprise his role in Armor Wars

The actor recently appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, where the host asked if he would be willing to step into Hammer’s shoes once again as it’s been rumored that he’s been asked to join the upcoming film Armor Wars.

In true Marvel actor fashion, Rockwell sort of sides step the question as it’s pretty well known in Hollywood that Marvel keeps a very tight lip on everything, especially casting decisions.

“Really? There’s a rumor? Well, I’m waiting for the phone call. I’m growing the beard and everything. It’s been a while since Iron Man 2. I’m in, dude,” Rockwell said.

The storyline of Armor Wars in the comics sees Hammer buy Stark’s suit designs and manufacture villain armor for the likes of Crimson Dynamo, Shockwave, and Doctor Doom. Stark then realizes that he has to fight each villain with his suit individually after he couldn’t get the designs back from Hammer.

However, as Stark died at the end of Avengers: Endgame, the adaptation of Armor Wars is set to follow Stark’s friend and ally James Rhodes as he struggles to stop the villain group from stealing and copying Tony Stark’s Iron Man suit designs.

And this would be the perfect way for Rockwell’s Hammer to rejoin the MCU as he would make for the perfect antagonist in a post-Iron Man/Avengers led world.
