Pokemon Go players slam “worst promo code” gifts

Pokemon Go fans are unhappy with the items given away in the game’s latest promo code, claiming it’s not worth the hassle of inputting the letters & numbers.

The Pokemon series often gives away items via promo codes or Mystery Gifts. These codes can give everything from helpful items to Mythical Pokemon, so fans are quick to share them with other people online.

Pokemon Go has promo codes that can be inputted via the game’s store or through the official website. Like the mainline games, these codes can give items and Pokemon encounters, but they’re also known as one of the best ways to get new clothes for your avatar.

Not all Pokemon Go promo codes are created equal, however, with some barely worth the effort of booting up the app or visiting the store. Fans have often taken umbrage with bad codes; the latest is no exception.

Pokemon Go’s new promo code is underwhelming

A helpful user on TheSilphRoad Reddit created a thread announcing a new promo code, which gives 10 Great Balls and 5 Potions to whoever claims it. Fans quickly complained about how bad this giveaway was, as people usually delete these kinds of items to make room in their inventory.

“I appreciate you sharing it. But I don’t appreciate Niantic making a promo code for stuff I throw away. LOL,” one user wrote, while another said, “Ninantic breaking out the virtual vault for this one.”

“I think that’s the worst promo code I’ve ever seen. I’m not even gonna paste it in. I’ve never skipped one before,” another user complained, while another agreed, “Why would anyone even waste the time it takes to put that in, for those ‘rewards’?”

There might be a more devious reason for this giveaway, as explained by one fan: “It looks like a ploy for us to go to their webstore. When I redeemed it, it showed me a promo ‘15% off your first web purchase’.”

A handful of potions and Great Balls is a laughably bad giveaway, especially in a game where PokeStops and daily tasks drown you in free items, to the point where you delete most of them to make room for better items.

If the intention was for people to check out the Pokemon Go store, then Niantic could have coughed up some better items to get fans interested before dangling a sale in front of them.
