Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Epilogue character origin could be a remake clue

The new Epilogue chapter for Pokemon Scarlet & Violet reveals an interesting tidbit about one key character, with another hint that we could be returning to the Unova region from Gen 5 in a new remake.

It wasn’t that long ago that we returned to the Sinnoh region as part of Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl. In fact, we returned twice, as the ancient version of that land (the Hisui region) was the setting of Pokemon Legends: Arceus.

The next games in line for a remake are Pokemon Black & White, which were set in the Unova region. There’s no denying that The Pokemon Company has been referencing Unova in a big way, with The Indigo Disk DLC for Pokemon Scarlet & Violet being set in the region.

With all of these references to the Unova region, it feels like a return trip is inevitable. And it turns out that the recently released free Epilogue chapter for Pokemon Scarlet & Violet is throwing more fuel on the fire.

Nemona’s new origin in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet’s DLC is another nod towards Unova

As posted by Twitter/X user SoulSilverArt, the new Epilogue content strongly hints that Nemona, the rival character in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, is actually from Unova. This is yet another link between a Gen 9 character and the Unova region.

The revelation that Nemona is from Unova adds nothing to the character. If anything, it detracts from Gen 9, as the main rival isn’t even from Paldea, even if they did grow up there. Usually, the rival hails from the region the game’s in, but that’s no longer the case with Nemona.

The doubling down on Unova references feels like The Pokemon Company could setting up a return, as the new games tend to feature nods to the next entries that are getting a remake.

The question now is whether we’re getting straight remakes of Pokemon Black & White, whether their sequels will be involved, whether Unova will get a Wild West-style prequel game (in the style of Pokemon Legends: Arceus), or whether the remakes will take a whole new approach.

There’s also the question of how Paldea will connect to Unova, as we keep seeing connections between Gen 9 characters and locations with the Gen 5 region. Are these elements being set up so people like Nemona or places like the Blueberry Academy will be part of the remakes?

Usually, The Pokemon Company only releases one remake per generation, though the Switch has toed the line with the Let’s Go games and Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl. The company may be planning Gen 5 remakes for the Nintendo Switch or its rumored successor.
