The Battle for Ashenvale is one of the centerpiece PvP activities in World of Warcraft: Season of Discovery. However, the community is deeply unhappy with the latest change to how regularly it starts.

The Battle for Ashenvale is a refreshing change to the instanced PvP formula that Classic WoW players have become used to. Instead, the event is triggered by players engaging in PvP activities within the zone, presuming it has not occurred too recently.

In a recent update to the game, Blizzard confirmed that they had altered how the activity’s timer works. Within that, a new battle will start somewhere between two and three hours after the last, though this will vary depending on player behavior.

Now, players are taking to social media to complain about the latest update.

The Battle for Ashenvale timer is frustrating some players

In a Reddit post, one player called on Blizzard to change The Battle for Ashenvale timer once again to either two or three hours precisely.

They claim the amorphous nature of the timer is hugely reducing their inclination to participate, as they could be waiting a further hour after the initial two hours have elapsed. They assert that having a hard start time for the event (if the conditions were met) would be a good thing for the battle overall.

Many were quick to agree, with one saying: “I still need Revered with Warsong, but whenever I go to Ashenvale, and it’s on like 60% I have literally no idea how much longer it will be, so I just leave. It’s genuinely frustrating, I feel like the current system only benefits those who just AFK on the zone.”

Another suggested a softer approach that keeps the variable timer but lowers the minimum and maximum threshold, saying: “I think they should keep what they’ve done, but knock the “timer” back to min 1h max 2h. Basically what it was before, but still helps it along when folks move on.”

Whatever does happen with the Battle for Ashenvale, much of the attention will be drawn away when Phase Two launches on February 8. Stranglethorn Vale is set to become the replacement PvP hub, though the developer has promised it will be a very different proposition.
