Twitch streamer’s room “explodes” in shocking clip – but is it real?

In the age of virality, content creators are resorting to more and more over-the-top methods to snag views — but some of their ideas are truly eye-popping.
Recently, it’s been a trend for Twitch streamers to edit their broadcasts to seem as though they’ve suffered some horrible accident. The most viral example of this occurred in January 2024, when streamer ‘imboggles’ stuck metal forks inside two toasters, resulting in an electric ‘explosion’ that ended his broadcast. (Of course, the explosion wasn’t real — but the ban he got from Twitch definitely was.)
Now, another on-stream ‘explosion’ is taking over social media as viewers debate whether or not it actually happened.

On February 12, Twitch streamer ‘bodiggles’ was broadcasting a game of Minecraft when he remarked that his room smelled like “dog sh*t,” to which his friend over voice chat jokingly replied, “Yo, methane check.”
As if testing his buddy’s suggestion, the streamer pulled out a lighter. In an instant, his streaming room appeared to erupt into flames, with a few frames on bodiggles’ camera showing the aftermath of the ‘explosion’ before the stream abruptly ended.
Bodiggles shared a clip from the broadcast to Twitter/X, where he claimed that both himself and his cats are fine, but “just a bit shaken up.”
That’s not all; the streamer even shared photos of himself in a hospital bed with the caption, “We are chilling and the view ain’t bad AT ALL.”
Despite his best efforts to sell the moment as totally authentic, more than a few viewers are convinced that the whole thing was made up for views as the Twitch trend of explosive broadcasts continues.
In fact, one netizen pointed out how it looks like bodiggles used Adobe After Effects to ‘stretch’ a PNG of flames over an image of his streaming room.
“Great viral marketing, gotta say,” one user commented.
“The new Twitch meta is just spontaneous combustion,” another joked.
This is just the latest example of Twitch’s ‘explosion meta’ to go viral after another broadcaster took inspiration from ‘imboggles’ toaster experiment and made it seem like he stuck a wet fork inside an electrical outlet, sparking outrage online over this potentially dangerous new trend.
