An absolute classic in the horror-crime genre is the 2000 film American Psycho — which weirdly, feels as if it was released a long time before that.
The story follows Patrick Bateman, a wealthy investment banker who hides his psychopathic ego from his friends. Later, his illogical fantasies escalate and he submits to an uncontrollable bloodlust.
24 years later and plans for a modern remake are dividing viewer opinion — alongside rumors of Tom Holland in the leading role.

Now that plans for an American Psycho remake have been revealed, fan attention has turned to the role of Patrick Bateman, with Tom Holland backed by some fans for the role.
Reports of the remake were confirmed by industry egghead Jeff Sneider, which has caused huge fan division in itself. However, it’s the viewers who have touted Tom Holland as a possible choice to play the unhinged Patrick Bateman, though some aren’t convinced.
In the last few years, both spinoffs and musical remakes have been rumored, with each keeping Holland at its core. Thanks to the new announcement, the rumor mill is churning once again.
“I SAY TOM HOLLAND UNIRONICALY HE 100% COULD PLAY THIS ROLE AND I THINK IT COULD HELP BREAK THE NERDY 17YO AURA PEOPLE SEE HIM HAVING,” one fan posted on X/Twitter.
A second agreed: “If it’s Tom Holland for the AMERICAN PSYCHO remake then maybe they could do the David Cronenberg script – the one that ended with a big musical number and bankers back-flipping down Wall Street.”
However, there’s a huge percentage of fans who need a great deal of convincing. “I see people saying Jacob Elordi or Tom Holland for the new American Psycho & both would go crazy in that role but still no,” read one post, with another weighing in, “Really popular quote tweet on my tl saying Tom Holland should play the role and people are agreeing and like. Even as someone yet to watch American Psycho, please no.”
This doesn’t mean that others aren’t willing to offer up alternatives to Tom Holland in the role. One such example added, “The easiest slam dunk in the world is Dominic Sessa as Patrick Bateman in the modern American Psycho and yet we’re still throwing Tom Holland’s name in the ring for reasons unknown!”
Jacob Elordi, Henry Cavill, and Lee Pace have also all been named — if the fans can get onboard with the movie’s existence altogether.
