The Chosen fans want show to “work on” these two things

The Chosen fans have been loving Season 4 – but the show could do with “working on” these two things, according to a recent Reddit post.

Created, written, and produced by Dallas Jenkins and distributed by Lionsgate, the series follows Jesus’ life and teachings from his emergence in Capernaum all the way to his crucifixion and resurrection – if the creator’s plans go the distance.

While watched all across the world – it’s said to have reached more than 200 million unique users since its launch in 2019 – and well-acclaimed, there has been criticism. For example, some feel its mere existence is a violation of the Second Commandment.

As the show approaches the final episodes of its fourth season, fans hope to see the series improve in at least two ways.

The Chosen fans want show to improve two things

On The Chosen subreddit, u/AyandesS listed two things the show needs to work on: the opening credits and merchandise.

“The two are connected. To me, the style of the opening credits is way off from what it should be. The visuals are trying to convey this show is like a late 90s/ early 2000s sitcom,” they wrote.

“It doesn’t convey the feel someone should expect from The Chosen at all. I get the fish and all that, it’s just the execution. And then that sort of slick black, white, and teal aesthetic with the music it’s playing just feels mismatched. It’s unpleasant.”

As for how this relates to merch, the user isn’t impressed with the teal color schemes or designs. “Give me some earth tones. They wear some cool clothes in the show. Sell me that. I want that backpack Jesus has. That blanket thing Matthew wears,” they added.

Some people agree. “The color schemes are excessively modern, which doesn’t align with the aesthetics of the show. I also prefer wearing more earth tones compared to bright colors like the teal. Perhaps it’s a marketing tactic since the colors of the merch is so distinctive and stand out in a big way,” one wrote.

“My issue with the merch is that it’s very subpar, to the point we’ve stopped buying anything. The shirts run very small and are practically see-through. It’s honestly not worth it when you can get better quality ‘non-authentic’ Chosen merch from Amazon and it’s cheaper,” another commented.

Others defended the series and its products. “I like what they have, and I have the 5&2 sweatshirt and wear it frequently. The point of no one knowing the 5&2 is to engage in conversation. First wasn’t sure about the music but have grown to like it. Would love additional merch but tasteful,” one wrote.

“The teal has a symbolic meaning for life. I hear you because I can be purist that way, but I like this contrast. I’m glad they didn’t try to do a 1st century aesthetic. Get too literal and it would be weird,” another commented.
