Pirates of the Caribbean 6 is lurking somewhere in the waters – but fans are divided by new rumors surrounding Johnny Depp.

For many kids brought up in the 2000s, Johnny Depp‘s name was either synonymous with Edward Scissorhands, Willy Wonka, or Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean.

However, his decades-long acting career has recently been overshadowed by his legal trial against former partner Amber Heard, with Depp initially being rewarded around $15 million in damages.

Now that details on Pirates of the Caribbean 6 are doing the rounds, fans of the franchise are divided by rumors of Johnny Depp’s involvement.

According to new reports, Johnny Depp is in talks to be involved in Pirates of the Caribbean 6 in a “supporting role,” moving away from his leading charge in the previous films.

While some Disney fans have welcomed the news, others think the rumors are a step too far – both for Depp and for the franchise itself.

“Please, just let the series die,” one fan posted on Reddit. “For me, it ended with 3 due to it being a great conclusion and ended on a high note. 4 was not needed and didn’t really add much to the series, but still entertaining for having Blackbeard. Whereas with 5… nah, that was absolutely awful.

“There was a decline after 1 in terms of quality, but the trilogy was very fun. It’s something that holds up remarkably well and doesn’t need a revisit. Any attempts to revitalize, reboot, whatever, just won’t go well at all,” the post continued.

“Everyone here does know that JD literally said he would never work with Disney again regardless of pay after firing him based purely on hearsay, right? He’s never going back to that series,” a second weighed in.

A third fan countered: “Man Johnny Depp is literally the only reason people like Pirates of the Caribbean.”

Last month, it was reported that Depp had been replaced by Ayo Edebiri in the sixth installment of the franchise, with Walt Disney Studios now seemingly going back on what it wants.

As of writing, Pirates of the Caribbean 6 is currently untitled, with no locked-in release date or cast list. However, we do know that Joachim Ronning is set to make his return to the director’s chair.
