Former James Bond Pierce Brosnan has revealed who he would like to see don 007’s tux in the next movie, and it’s one of his countrymen.

Pierce Brosnan was cast as James Bond in 1995, making his debut in acclaimed reboot GoldenEye. During his successful tenure, he played the character three more times – in Tomorrow Never Dies, The World is Not Enough, and Die Another Day.

Brosnan was then replaced by Daniel Craig, who played 007 a total of five times, kicking off with Casino Royale, and finishing up with No Time to Die.

That film hit screens in 2021, but since then it has been all quiet on the Bond front, with the world speculating over who might star in the next iteration.

Pierce Brosnan reveals his pick for next James Bond

Pierce Brosnan says he’d like to see Irishman Cillian Murphy become the next James Bond. Speaking at the Oscar Wilde Awards in LA – as reported by Variety – Brosnan said: “Cillian would do a magnificent job as James Bond on His Majesty’s Secret Service.”

But he’s got stiff competition for the role, with the likes of Regé-Jean Page, Henry Cavill, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson all rumored to be in contention.

It would certainly be a high-profile piece of casting, with Murphy looking likely to win the Best Actor Academy Award for Oppenheimer on Sunday.

The actor started out in action, landing the lead in Danny Boyle horror movie 28 Days Later. He’s no stranger to blockbusters, having played Scarecrow in The Dark Knight trilogy, and continuing his fruitful collaboration with Christopher Nolan in the likes of Inception and Dunkirk.

Though Murphy is probably best-known for starring as Thomas Shelby in Peaky Blinders, the acclaimed BBC series which ran for six seasons, and proved that he’s also handy with a gun.
