The Continental is a John Wick prequel series that debuted on Prime Video last year. But according to Ian McShane, the stars of the movie were never informed about the making of the show.

Ian McShane plays Winston Scott across all four John Wick movies; longtime friend of the title character, and owner of The Continental, which is a safe haven for assassins.

The John Wick universe has been expanding however, with the movie Ballerina hitting screens next year, and featuring the characters of both Scott and Wick.

While in 2023, The Continental aired on Amazon Prime, a prequel series that was set in the 1970s, and served as something of an origin story for Winston Scott. Unbeknownst to McShane.

John Wick star reveals he was “never asked” about The Continental

Ian McShane appeared on a British talk show last night, where he spoke about Ballerina reshoots, before being asked about The Continental.

The actor’s face drops at the mere mention of the show, with McShane revealing that he’s never watched it, and questioning why he would see it. His reason? “They never asked anybody about it. They just went and did it.”

A clearly annoyed McShane says he spoke to Keanu Reeves who said “I don’t know,” because nobody asked either of them about it. The interview ended on something of an awkward note.

Colin Woodell plays McShane’s character in The Continental, which charts Winston Scott’s rise to power, as well as his acquisition of the hotel in question. The show is still currently streaming on Prime Video, while Ballerina is due to hit screens on June 6, 2025.
