As viewers continue to discover Bluey through Disney+, many have wondered if Bluey is actually a boy or a girl.

One of the biggest children’s shows in the world is undoubtedly the Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s original series Bluey.

The show focuses on a family of Heeler dogs — Bluey, Bingo, Bandit, and Chili — living in Australia and all of the everyday shenanigans they get up to.

Though Bluey is one of the most popular kids’ shows out there, many viewers have wondered if the titular character is a boy or girl, so here’s everything we know.

Is Bluey a boy or a girl?

Bluey is a six-year-old girl.

In the series, Bluey is a girl Blue Heeler, taking after her father, while her four-year-old sister, Bingo, is a Red Heeler, taking after their mother.

Because of her blue color, a lot of audiences have mistaken Bluey to be a boy as most traditional kids’ shows would use the color blue to indicate that a character is a boy.

The color of Bluey and Bingo’s coats has less to do with their gender and more to do with the coat colors of Heelers, or Australian cattle dogs, in real life as they can be blue/grey or red, with unique color patterns.

At the end of the day, the gender of Bluey, her sister, and her friends have no bearing on the plot as a whole as the series focuses more on how children navigate their way through life and all of the lessons they learn along the way.
