Invincible creator Robert Kirkman spoke about the potential of a Spider-Man cameo during IGN FanFest, but it’s not what fans wanted to hear.

Longtime Invincible fans have eagerly been chasing the notion of a Spider-Man cameo happening in Season 2 Part 2 of the series.

The rumors are tied to a special crossover in Marvel Team-Up #14, where Invincible finds himself in the Marvel Universe after Angstrom Levy throws him through multiple dimensions.

Now the creator of Invincible has spoken out about the rumors, and it sounds like fans may be out of luck.

Robert Kirkman says Spider-Man cameo rumors in Invincible Season 2 are untrue

Invincible creator Robert Kirkman himself has now addressed the long-gestating rumors of a Spider-Man cameo, shutting them down in an interview.

The interview was during an IGN Fan Fest piece to preview the upcoming Season 2 Part 2. When asked about the possibility of a Spider-Man appearance, Kirkman called it out as incredibly unlikely to ever happen.

“Would that we could pull the powers of Amazon and Disney and Marvel and everybody together! Wouldn’t that be an amazing thing?” Kirkman quickly responded. “But I wouldn’t count on it. And that’s not a tease.”

The notion of a Spider-Man cameo has been a long-running hope of fans, but it is Prime Video’s fault, to be clear. The crossover was teased in the very first Invincible Season 2 trailer, all the way back in July 2023, when eagle-eyed fans spotted the cover art to Marvel Team-Up #14 on a tablet Invincible was reading.

Since then, there has only been more fuel on the fire, with the casting of long-time Spider-Man voice actor Josh Keaton in an undisclosed role and numerous leaker accounts claiming Spider-Man would appear.

The latest Season 2 Part 2 trailer has teased some huge moments, including Mark’s fight with Levy, the Squid invasion, and the first appearance of Anissa. But, so far, it sounds like fans hoping for a Spider-Man cameo may be well and truly out of luck.

Invincible Season 2 Prime 2 premieres on Prime Video on March 14.
