The Beetlejuice sequel is all die-hard fans can talk about as it brings back some familiar favorites, with the inclusion of Jenna Ortega in a leading role she confirms is “weird” and “different.”

One of Tim Burton’s cult classic movies was Beetlejuice about a ghost married couple stuck in their house after their death. They cross paths with a pesky bio-exorcist who tries to get rid of the house’s new tenants.

Fans were hyped when Burton announced a sequel to the cult classic that brings back original cast members Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and Catherine O’Hara. It would also include Jenna Ortega in a leading role as Lydia’s daughter.

With the movie having wrapped production and a release date set, Ortega gives fans a new level of excitement about her character in Beetlejuice 2.

In an interview with Variety, Ortega confirms she stars as Lydia’s daughter who is rebellious toward her mother but is just as “weird” and “strange” in a way fans won’t expect.

As fans remember from the original movie, Lydia was a goth teen who could see the ghosts in her new home. For Beetlejuice 2, Lydia is back, a full-grown adult, and has a daughter. Ortega plays the role of Astrid and explains her character will be a fun surprise to what fans would expect.

“She’s weird, but in a different way and not in the way you’d assume, I would say. The relationship between Lydia and Astrid, my character, is very important,” said the actor.

She continued to reveal her character is in no way the opposite of her mother stating, “I wouldn’t say she’s bright and sunny at all. She doesn’t go to the opposite end of the spectrum, but any kid who becomes a teenager wants to be removed from their parents. I think they instantly just fight whatever it is that their parent loves. So I think it’s a little bit of that. I’m not wearing pink and a cheerleader, but I am a little bit against my mom’s history or past. We butt heads quite a bit.”

Fans on X/Twitter are over the moon about the character. One commented, “Jenna Ortega’s excitement for #Beetlejuice2 is infectious honestly! I’ve gotten hyped for everything coming off the set of #Beetlejuice especially the “back to the basics” approach. Ortega may be onto something here!”
