Xbox reveals stunning SpongeBob Squarepants console but there’s a catch

Microsoft has dropped the latest limited crossover skin for the Xbox Series X, featuring Spongebob Squarepants.

Tie-ins and crossovers are huge in video games right now. Just look at Fortnite and its ever-widening roster. Microsoft isn’t one to sleep on opportunity, and the next limited edition Xbox Series X console is here.

Featuring Spongebob Squarepants, the special console is exclusive to a Nickelodeon All Stars Brawl 2 bundle. Alongside it, a limited edition controller with Squidward, Mr. Crabs, Patrick, Plankton, and Gary is also included.

Microsoft is, however, not making these available through Best Buy’s website. Being treated as a limited-time item, the console bundle will only be available through Best Buy’s app in the Drops section.

The bundle goes live at 8 am PT and it’ll be priced at $699. This nets you the console, controller and game. You’ll only have until Best Buy’s stock remains.

As with the rest of Microsoft’s Xbox’s limited editions, it doesn’t seem as though these will be available outside of the drop. The Bluey Xbox from December was only made available as a giveaway, with nothing from Team Green.

Xbox players react to limited edition Spongebob console bundle

One X/Twitter user said about the controller:

“Will the controller be sold separately? I would literally sell my soul for that controller.”

Fan reaction to the price hasn’t been entirely pleasant, with some calling it “insane” to hike up the price.

Responding on X/Twitter, user LinkofHyrule89 said:

“How is this worth an extra $200? Literally, get the Series X on sale for $350 and slap a sticker on it. $699 is insane.”

Another also questioned the price tag:

“Let’s take something super mid and make a special edition and charge $700 for it.”

Meanwhile, Canadians are also feeling left out, as players point out the drop isn’t available for Best Buy Canada.

Xbox will probably continue to make these limited cosnoles, but it’s high time that they stop keeping them under wraps and let people buy them normally. In the meantime, dbrand has a massive selection of skins to choose from.
