Playseat Challenge X Logitech G Edition review: Simple but refined

Logitech has partnered with Playseat yet again to create the Challenge X foldable cockpit, but is it worth checking out?

When it comes to playing games like Forza Motorsport and EA Sports WRC, it’s no secret that some players want to immerse themselves in the game as much as possible.

One of the most popular ways to do so is by mounting your force-feedback wheel controller to something like the Next Level Racing Wheel Stand 2.0 or even better, a full cockpit with an attached seat.

The Playseat Challenge X Logitech G Edition cockpit gives you the chance to immerse yourself in your favorite racing game, and I found that it does it quite well.

Assembly

The Playseat Challenge X Logitech G Edition cockpit was a breeze to put together and didn’t take exceedingly long to do so. I found that the detailed instructions make it super easy to figure out what part goes where.

You don’t need to assemble a small army to put it together either. The cockpit is super lightweight, coming in at just 26 pounds without a wheel attached. There’s no crazy flipping or small areas to have to fit things into, and it doesn’t require any tools to build, as everything just simply snaps together.

Where you do need to use tools, however, is when you go to mount your wheel and accessories to the cockpit. Playseat includes all the required hardware and tools to do so, and it only took me about 20 minutes to get my Logitech G Pro wheel, pedals, and shifter mounted.

Design

The Playseat Challenge X Logitech G Edition cockpit stands out from the pack with a handful of well-thought-out features.

Getting in and out of the cockpit is a breeze, thanks to the pivoting bar that moves your wheel out of the way while you sit down to enjoy your favorite racing title.

If you have a quick-release wheel, though, I do recommend taking it off while you get yourself strapped in. With the bar open fully, it puts quite a bit of pressure on the top of my Logitech G Pro. However, those with a smaller diameter or F1-style wheel may not have the same issue.

The wheel mounting angle is adjustable with an easy-to-reach knob, and I found that it stays secure with no issue — even with the constant torque of my direct drive wheel.

When it comes to the pedals, there is plenty of adjustment with both the angle and distance. With this, the Playseat Challenge X Logitech Edition will be suitable for nearly all heights. It detaches from the rest of the seat as well, which is nice for anyone looking to use their wheel and pedals both on and off of the cockpit.

There are six angles you can choose from when unfolding the Playseat Challenge X, and each gives a unique feel to the cockpit itself. But, moreover, it allows the cockpit to be adjusted to your size, which makes it feel like a more personalized experience.

The seat itself slides over the top bars, and the rest of it is held on with velcro straps. The hook and loop connections seem to be perfectly suitable after a few months of testing, holding my nearly 300lb body for hours with no issue. Those worried about it getting dirty and losing strength can just use a toothbrush or cloth to keep things nice and clean.

Playseat has opted for a shifter mount that sits right beside your wheel instead of down by your leg, which is a rather disappointing choice. Being a full cockpit, it would feel more realistic if they had included a mount that places your shifter and a potential handbrake down by your leg instead.

Comfort

The Playseat Challenge X Logitech G Edition cockpit isn’t as comfortable as other cockpits with regular racing seats, but you won’t regret sitting in it for a full endurance race.

Playseat’s velcro strap seat attachment design allows enough slack that the fabric molds to your body as needed and offers just enough padding to keep you comfortable for long sessions. I was initially worried that the seat would cut off circulation to my legs but did not experience any issues during testing.

I do not doubt that it will suit a wide variety of shapes and sizes without any issues.

Should you buy it?

If you’re in the market for a high-quality sim-racing cockpit, the Playseat Challenge X Logitech Edition is definitely worth checking out.

It’s super high quality, well built, and offers a very realistic sim-racing experience while taking up very little space in the process for those limited on room.

Verdict: 4/5

The Playseat Challenge X Logitech G Edition provides a great sim racing experience in a compact, foldable cockpit design that is perfect for most users. However, I wish they had gone for a shifter mount that sits beside your leg, instead of right beside the wheel.
