Changes to Starfield’s codebase have some players thinking that the long-awaited Creation Kit 2 modding tools could arrive soon.

Since launch, players of Bethesda’s latest epic have patiently awaited the rollout of Creation Kit 2 modding tools.

The team hasn’t shared much in the way of specifics, though Starfield’s 2024 roadmap previously confirmed that official mods would go live sometime this year.

Now an update to Starfield’s codebase has some fans convinced that the tools could become available sooner rather than later. And it seems that closed testing for said tools will begin in the not-too-distant future.

Starfield update drums up excitement for Creation Kit 2 mods

As spotted by Reddit user TERABIT, the Steam Changelist for Starfield has been updated with new codebase branches. The changes show that a Creation Kit beta is being prepped for those in BGS’ Verified Creator Program.

This suggests Verified Creators may not have to wait too much longer to get their hands on Starfield’s official modding tools. Without word from Bethesda, though, it’s unclear when exactly the Creation Kit 2 features will receive a wider release.

Regardless of the specifics, replies to the Reddit post indicate that Starfield players are thrilled about the eventual Creation Kit update.

Reads one such hopeful response, “Super hyped for the CK. Starfield has a lot of gameplay systems, but lacking in content to fill those systems out. I can definitely see mods adding hundreds of new POIs, ships, planet locations, and radiant quests to fill things out…”

Another person added further down the thread, “FINALLY! I’ve been waiting for this. Bethesda games always take off after the CK releases.”

And one lapsed Starfield user said Creation Kit could be what brings them back to the RPG. “Finally… It’s getting closer to when I’ll finally play this game again lol,” they commented.

Given the changes to the game’s backend on Steam, Bethesda may have more to share sometime soon.
