The 2023 Game of the Year debate is heating up following Starfield’s massive success, but Hogwarts Legacy and Baldur’s Gate have trumped it in at least one core area.

There have been many awesome games released so far this year. While GOTY won’t be crowned for a bit still, Starfield has already been bested by some of its rivals.

So far, 2023 has been one of gaming’s best. The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, Diablo 4, Hogwarts Legacy, Baldur’s Gate… the list goes on and there are even more games to come.

However, while the GOTY has yet to be decided, Diablo 4, Hogwarts and Baldur’s Gate have Starfield beat already in an area that may be overlooked when it comes to measuring hype.

Starfield trumped by four games as GOTY race heats up

When Starfield launched, some of the biggest Twitch streamers began playing through the game with former CS:GO pro shroud dominating viewership ahead of Asmongold.

However, despite these big names broadcasting their playthroughs, the new Bethesda RPG couldn’t overtake the viewership numbers of four other Game of the Year contenders.

According to Streams Charts, Diablo 4 and Hogwarts Legacy dwarfed Starfield in terms of day one viewership with 12.7M and 12.4M hours of watch time respectively.

Baldur’s Gate trailed significantly after that with 3.7M hours followed by Star Wars Jedi Survivor at 2.6M.

Starfield was beaten by Hogwarts Legacy and Diablo 4 in Twitch viewership.

Starfield, meanwhile, picked up 2.4M, which was still double the Twitch viewership that Zelda Tears of the Kingdom debuted with.

Of course, viewership doesn’t win awards, but it’s still a very interesting metric to look at to gauge how people are reacting to new games.
