The Pokemon Company announced Pokemon Legends Z-A, a new Legends game that will return to the Kalos region and feature the revival of Mega Evolutions.

The Pokemon franchise got a boost in the arm during the 2024 Pokemon Presents showcase, which featured updates for the mobile games, as well as a new mobile iteration of the Pokemon Trading Card Game called Pocket.

Fans were more interested in learning the future of the franchise, especially following the polarizing reception to the Gen 9 games. Many people expected a return to the Unova region, especially following several hints in the Pokemon Scarlet & Violet DLC.

What fans weren’t expecting was a return to the Kalos region, last seen in Gen 6, as there had been no hints that The Pokemon Company wanted to revisit the Pokemon version of France.

Pokemon Legends Z-A is coming 2025

The February 2024 Pokemon Presents ended with an announcement for Pokemon Legends Z-A, a new entry in the Legends series set in the Kalos region. The trailer is now available on the Serebii Twitter/X account.

Pokemon Legends Z-A is set in Lumiose City in the Kalos region, which is the Pokemon version of Paris. No gameplay footage was shown, but the trailer suggests that players will be involved in the construction of Lumiose City.

More importantly, the trailer featured the Mega Evolution symbol, suggesting that the much beloved feature introduced in Gen 6 will be making its return. Hopefully, new Pokemon will receive Mega Evolutions this time around,

Curiously, the trailer said that the game will be released “simultaneously” in 2025. This strongly suggests that the game will be released on the Nintendo Switch and its unnamed successor, which is rumored to have been pushed back to next year.

The Pokemon Legends Z-A announcement was a great way to end Pokemon Presents. Fans have been waiting for a Pokemon Z for years, and while this is its own entity, it still provides a gateway to learn more about Zygarde and a chance to revisit a beloved area in the Pokemon series.
