Pokemon Go players blast devs over “garbage” Shop offers

A Pokemon Go player has called out developer Niantic over the “garbage” offers that are currently available for purchase via the in-game Shop.

Despite being over a decade old, Pokemon Go is still as popular as ever. The mobile game, developed by Niantic, continues to grow with new content, events, and more each and every month.

And while players may be overall pleased with the state of the game, there are still aspects that cause backlash.

The main source of this being the in-game store. In a new Reddit thread, one Pokemon Go player has slammed the dev team over the way in which they have marketed their bundle offers in the store.

The initial poster detailed how, “I signed into Pokemon Go for the first time in a couple of years and saw a box of 50 incubators/supers for 7k. Not two weeks later I see the same box with the same contents but for “60% off”, yet the same 7k price. Shame! Shame on all ya houses, Niantic!”

Fellow Pokemon Go players have also chimed in with their thoughts, many of which agree with the frustration that the initial Redditor has expressed.

“Bundle prices aren’t typically the flat value of all items summed up, normally there’s a non-stated discount for buying the bundle versus buying each item separately (see literally any previous box ever).

“Presenting the price this way is a cheap marketing ploy to trick people’s brains into going “Ooh, big savings!” and potentially buying it where they may not have if they listed only the bundle price. Artificially inflating the price of something just to present a fake savings is a scummy thing to do.”

This isn’t the first time Niantic has been called out by Pokemon Go fans in regards to the pricing and presentation of the in-game shop. Recently, Dexerto reported on how another “dumb” Storage Box purchase left one player frustrated by the state of the Pokemon Go Shop.

Time will tell if Niantic addresses these recent Shop gripes but if they do, we’ll be sure to keep you updated.
