Anthony Fantano gives damning verdict on Kanye West’s “trash” Vultures album

Popular music critic Anthony Fantano gave Kanye West’s Vultures 1 album less than a review, calling it straight-up “trash” in a new video.

Kanye West’s Vultures 1 has finally seen the light of day. After several postponements, including in the wake of a Nicki Minaj beef, the 16-track project was released to streaming services on February 9. The album didn’t appear on Spotify until the following day.

Initially slated for a December 2023 release, the joint Ty Dolla Sign album has been marred in controversy from the start. Minaj rejected a request to clear “New Body,” a five-year collaboration, and Ye sampled numerous artists without their permission, from Backstreet Boys to Black Sabbath and Donna Summer.

With the official release, reviews have slowly been trickling in. According to one popular YouTuber, the album isn’t worth listening to.

The popular music critic blasted the album as “unreviewable trash”

Anthony Fantano shared his review late on February 12, and he went all-in on slamming the Kanye West album. “This is completely unreviewable trash,” he began.

“Newsflash, since 2022, Kanye has made it his mission to go full-on antisemite, spouting insane conspiracy theories, talking about how he loves Hitler,” he continued, giving context to some of the album’s similarly-themed lyrics. “And at some point, I think he realized how much he f*cked up with all of that. So now, he has to own this total dumpster fire he’s created.”

Fantano goes on to bring up the argument of “separate the art from the artist.” He countered, sharing screenshots of Kanye West’s lyrics, “You can’t separate this crap from the music because it’s in the music. Look at the lyrics. Read these words. They have meaning, and they are saying things that aren’t good or normal.”

“You would have to expect me to separate my brain from my skull if you think I’m just going to ignore it,” he added.

He continued to dissect the album, saying, “The music, too, is sh*t. The song ‘Paid’ is one of the most unintentionally hilarious tracks I think Kanye has ever put out. It’s just a crappier version of ‘Fade.'”

Upon release, Kanye West & Ty Dolla Sign’s Vultures 1 debuted at No. 1 on iTunes. But after the album disappeared on Apple Music, it was subsequently pulled from the brand’s charts. The album was also inaccessible on YouTube Music and Tidal for a time. As of this writing, it appears to have returned to all streaming platforms.
