Rise of the Ronin difficulty settings explained

Rise of the Ronin has several difficulty settings that players can choose from, with each one impacting the way the game plays. So, here’s what you need to know about them in the game.

Rise of the Ronin is one of the biggest PS5 releases of 2024. Team Ninja’s latest open world title captures the bloody turmoil of the Bakumatsu period, a time when Japan was thrown into turmoil following the fall of the Tokugawa shogunate and the introduction of Western powers.  

With the game being produced by Team Ninja, the devs behind Nioh and Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, players can certainly expect a challenge. So, if you want to know how hard the game is, then here are all the difficulty options available.

All Rise of the Ronin difficulty settings

Rise of the Ronin includes three difficulty modes: Dawn, Dusk, and Twilight which are basically easy, normal, and hard. It’s important to note that Rise of the Ronin’s difficulty settings can be changed at any time. 

So, if you’re struggling to beat any of the game’s enemies or simply want more of a challenge, then you can adjust it on the fly. The three difficulty modes can be found below:

• Dawn difficulty (Easy): You should pick this setting if you want to just enjoy the story. Picking this difficulty will unlock additional settings, including the option to increase Health recovery from Medicine, and reduce Ki loss from attacks.

• Dusk difficulty (Normal): This option offers the most balanced experience in Rise of the Ronin. As a result, Dusk difficulty will likely be a good option for those who want their skill to be tested, but without having to play perfectly. 

• Twilight (Hard): Twilight is not for the faint of heart and will test players’ skills. This mode is for those who enjoy the added challenge and are familiar with Team Ninja’s older titles which had a similar learning curve such as Nioh and Nioh 2.

How to change the difficulty in Rise of the Ronin

If you do end up struggling with the difficulty setting you chose at the beginning of the game, worry not as you can change the difficulty at any time during the game. To change the settings simply follow the steps below:

1. Pause the game.
2. From the Pause Menu, select System, navigate to Game Settings, and adjust the difficulty to your liking.
3. Confirm the changes and once they’ve been applied the game will be on the difficulty of your choice.
