All new Match Types in WWE 2K24

Ambulance Match

First up in WWE 2K24 is the Ambulance Match. While not technically a first, as SmackDown vs RAW 2010’s Nintendo DS port bizarrely featured this match type, it is nonetheless a first for the current generation.

If you’ve never seen an Ambulance Match before, the aim is implied in its name. Debilitate your opponent, throw them in an Ambulance, and slam the door shut to be declared the winner.

Backstage Brawl (Tag Team, Triple Threat, Fatal 4-Way)

While not a new match type as a whole, the Backstage Brawl is being expanded here in WWE 2K24. Where before it purely functioned in 1v1 matches, the stipulation can now be added to Tag Team bouts, Triple Threats, and Fatal 4-Ways.

Casket Match

Not seen properly since WWE ‘12, the iconic Casket Match is making its return in WWE 2K24. Much like the Ambulance Match above, your goal remains the same.

Damage your opponent, throw them inside a casket at ringside, and slam the lid shut in order to win the match. With no other rules, violence is all but guaranteed with all manner of weapons likely to come into play.

Gauntlet Match

Not seen in modern-era games, the Gauntlet Match is making a comeback in WWE 2K24 as well. As the name implies, the goal here is to survive through a number of gruelling 1v1 matches in a row.

Starting off as a regular 1v1, the winner remains in the ring as a new challenger then approaches. The cycle repeats until an ultimate winner is declared. It’s likely players will be able to customize this match to set the number of opponents.

Special Guest Referee Match

Also returning in WWE 2K24 is the Special Guest Referee match type. While not inherently a unique match of its own, this feature lets players have another superstar don the ref attire and control the match.

Players will seemingly be able to have friends play as the referee directly, or let AI control them as usual. Though for now, it’s unclear just how much input these special guests may have on the outcome of a match.
