Why was Boateng given a Flashback SBC?

Jerome Boateng has been bestowed this SBC upgrade to celebrate his role in Bayern’s treble winning season in 2012/13. The German champions claimed the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and Champions League, all in the same year.

The year was a series of firsts for the young German star who had departed Manchester City just a year before. He scored his first Bundesliga goal, and lifted his home league’s trophy for the first of seven consecutive times.

In total, the now-31-year-old made 40 appearances for the club in their famous treble run, 26 of which came in the league. As well as his goal against Fortuna Dusseldorf, he also netted against FC Nürnberg in a 5–0 rout.

Boateng’s in-game stats & value

Bundesliga fans in FIFA 20 have been begging out for a special card like this one, and it looks like EA Sports has truly delivered — only fellow German international Mats Hummels and his 91-rated Flashback SBC equals Boateng’s upgrade.

Even better for players building a Bundesliga-based squad, or reforging the 2014 World Cup winnnig lineup which included both German stars, Boateng’s monster upgrade has no expiry date. This is perfect if you missed Hummels before.

In regards to the card itself, it’s a huge upgrade, as stated before. +17 pace, +19 dribbling, +7 defending, and +10 physical all shoot Boateng into the realms of one of the best defenders release this FIFA cycle, and that’s just face stats.

Both standing and sliding tackle get a +7 upgrade with this new Flashback card, while the German defender’s acceleration hits 80, up from 64. Just on the basis of stats alone, this special card is well worth the SBC price.

If you’re looking to slot Boateng into your team too, there’s already a ready-made defensive line you could call upon — Germany’s old cup-winning superstars. If you missed Hummels’ Flashback, you can pick up his 88 In-Form for just 55k.

These two can be paired perfectly with any of Manuel Neuer’s special cards, either his top tier 92-rated Flashback from earlier in the year, or one of his multiple in-form cards he’s got this year for shining between the sticks for Bayern.

If Boateng isn’t what you’re looking for, there’s other options too. Liverpool’s Mane and United’s Wan-Bissaka headlined TOTW26 if you’re keen on Premier League players, or Sandro’s 91-rated Flashback SBC could be more your speed.
