New PS5 update shuts down Cronus Zen support

PlayStation has brought the hammer down on Cronus Zen users in the latest PS5 update, which shuts down support for the controller mod.
The Cronus Zen controller modifier recently began gaining traction for its ability to tweak aim assist in games like Call of Duty and Apex Legends. The modifier makes guns more accurate than what was originally intended.
Cronus Zen could be purchased in most places where controllers are also sold, such as Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, and GameStop. But, the draw of having better aim comes at a hefty price tag. One controller mod will set a user back over $100.
This surge in Cronus Zen purchases was initially to combat mouse and keyboard users who naturally had more precise aim thanks to a lack of aim assist. However, the Cronus Zen attachment is considered cheating due to its auto-aim capabilities.
Cronus Zen no longer usable on PS5
On January 24, 2024, PlayStation released an update to all PS5s, which will shut down the software associated with Cronus Zen. When plugged into the controller, the Cronus Zen will no longer stay connected to the console, rendering it useless.
“We’re aware of an issue with Zen and the PS5,” said Cronus Zen on their website. “As of this morning, the console is prompting everyone to update, and if you do, Zen will no longer connect to the PS5 without disconnecting.”
The creators of the mod say there is no fix for the PlayStation for the foreseeable future. Which will make those attempting to use it in their games have to scrap their $100 black box.
This shutdown stings because Cronus Zen isn’t just for cheaters. People who need accessibility features to play games with controllers are also caught in the crossfire. This update unfairly impacts those who rely on the product to make their gaming experience more inclusive.
