Jujutsu Kaisen’s battle of the strongest ended with Gojo’s defeat, but it was probably the plan all along. We believe Gojo never intended to defeat Sukuna in Jujutsu Kaisen.

Jujutsu Kaisen took the internet by storm in September 2023 with Satoru Gojo’s tragic death at Sukuna’s hands. The battle of the strongest, which was supposed to be the most thrilling battle of the series, ended in a way that enraged fans.

The manga not only kills Gojo off-screen, but a lot of things just don’t match up. For example, Gojo’s unbelievable confidence in defeating the King of Curses and then claiming he was no match against Sukuna.

The manga continues with the battle against the strongest. However, there’s one key detail that might prove that Gojo never wanted to defeat Sukuna in Jujutsu Kaisen – at least not all by himself. Delve deeper to find out why we believe Gojo’s death might have been planned from the very beginning.

Why did Gojo fight Sukuna in Jujutsu Kaisen?

Gojo fighting the King of Curses wasn’t simply for thrills or anything. Instead, it must have been his goal to weaken Sukuna all along. Gojo’s Six Eyes allowed him to see the flow of cursed energy in extreme detail and to use that flow to read cursed techniques. Hence, there’s no way he didn’t know the difference in their power during the fight.

Nonetheless, he fought bravely and even got acknowledgment from the great Ryomen Sukuna. Currently, Yuji and Yuta are fighting against the embodiment of disaster. In Chapter 250, Sukuna also reveals that it’s not that he has low cursed energy due to his fight with Gojo, but every sorcerer has upgraded their defensive abilities.

However, Yuta knows that if Gojo hadn’t damaged the King of Curses so much, he and Yuji would’ve died by now. This gives rise to the possibility that maybe Gojo intended to clear a path for his students all along. After all, he has blind faith in his students and considers them to have far more potential than he ever had.

Gojo’s legacy is his students since they are destined to fulfill his dream of changing the rotten Jujutsu world. There’s also the fact that everything that’s been happening in the manga, from Yuta killing Kenjaku to Higuruma sacrificing himself, has been planned all along.

The series slowly uncovers all their plans and might finally reveal the truth behind Gojo’s death, or rather, sacrifice. Gojo never portrayed himself as a self-sacrificing person because of his unparalleled powers. However, things were different when Sukuna got involved.

In Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 222, Gojo, Ino, Ichiji, and Shoko discuss something in secrecy. The manga might reveal the conversation later on, shedding more light on Gojo’s thoughts and plans before the epic battle.
