Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No – it’s a brand-new Zorro series that’s just dropped on one popular streaming channel. Here’s what you need to know.

With its biggest rival Netflix dominating the world of streaming platforms, Prime Video, Peacock, and others are often playing catch-up. That being said, they routinely deliver the goods, giving viewers shows including 007: Road to a Million, Ted, and Reacher Season 2.

However, one non-Netflix release has flown almost completely under the radar – a TV adaptation classed as a “bold reinterpretation” of classic hero El Zorro.

With no Antonio Banderas in sight, here’s everything you need to know about the new series, including where it’s available to stream.

New Zorro series has just dropped on Prime Video

A brand-new series, going by the eponymous title of Zorro, has just dropped on streaming platform Prime Video.

The official logline reads: “Diego de la Vega returns to California to avenge his father’s murder. After assuming the title of Zorro, he initiates his struggle against Nah-Lin, a Native American who he believes has stolen his inheritance. Diego will confront the Governor, the malevolent leader of the Chinese community and a secret society, placing the common good above all. In doing so, he will sacrifice his love for Lola.”

With a total of 10 episodes, all of Zorro is available to binge at once, meaning there’s no weekly waits for new installments.

Miguel Bernardeau stars in the titular role as Diego de la Vega, with Renata Notni appearing opposite as love interest Lolita Marquez.

According to production notes, Zorro took eight months to shoot, from July 2022 to February 2023. Filming took place in various parts of the Canary Islands. The Sioux City Park on the island of Gran Canaria, meanwhile, was closed to the public for the duration of filming, in order to build the main sets and shoot part of the series.

However, for viewers, the fanfare has been less than satisfactory.

“Amazon is dropping a whole new Zorro series this week and most of you wouldn’t even know if I hadn’t just told you. There’s not even a hint of it on Prime Video’s landing page. Things are not going well,” one user posted on X/Twitter.

“So after finishing Season 2 of Reacher, I’ve checked out the new Spanish Zorro show on Prime and it’s pretty good. Of course, I will always have a soft spot for the two movies with Antonio Banderas but it’s always good to see Zorro on the screen,” added another.
