The Nest ripped apart by Netflix viewers after movie climbs chart
IFC FilmsThe Nest, a psychological drama starring Carrie Coon and Jude Law, has climbed Netflix’s top 10 chart – but that doesn’t mean people are enjoying it.
The current layout of the chart is pretty interesting: at number one you have Lift, Kevin Kart’s mile-high heist movie that’s held its position since its premiere last week. Next up is The Super Mario Bros Movie, which dropped on the streamer in December last year and has become a mainstay in the top three.
Then it starts to get a little weird: The Equalizer 3 makes sense, but then you have a definitively “rotten” movie like 2014’s The Single Moms Club and the likes of Teen Titans Go! To The Movies and The Croods.
The Nest is a particular outlier, but thanks to Netflix’s unpredictable algorithm, it’s found itself in seventh place on the top 10 movies chart in the US.
The Nest climbs Netflix chart – but viewers aren’t happy
The 2020 movie, written and directed by The Iron Claw’s Sean Durkin, follows a couple (Coon and Law) who relocate to the UK in the 1980s – but the move proves strenuous on their marriage, and their once-steady foundations start to crumble as their lives unravel.
It was critically acclaimed upon release, with its Rotten Tomatoes score sitting at 90%. However, its audience rating of 45% proved to be an accurate indicator of how it’d go down with Netflix viewers, given the response on social media.
“The Nest. Did I just waste an hour and 47 minutes on this movie? Mannnn @netflix y’all are tripping,” one user tweeted. “The Nest… trying to think of a worse movie. It’s one of these flicks where you’ve gone too far before you realize you’ve wasted your time, but feel compelled to find out how it ends. Don’t bother,” another wrote.
“DO NOT watch The Nest on Netflix. Movie was trash lowkey upset I wasted my time,” a third wrote. “The Nest in Netflix is the worst movie ever made oh my god,” a fourth posted. “The Nest, a movie on Netflix might be the worst movie I’ve ever seen. What a waste,” a fifth wrote.
“Well… because I enjoy Carrie Coon I watched The Nest on Netflix. It’s categorized as thriller/horror but no such things happened! [Rotten Tomatoes] gives it a 90%. Lies they tell! I wasted my time,” a sixth tweeted.
