The Mean Girls musical has ruffled a few feathers since its release, with movie alumn Lindsay Lohan not pleased with a joke made in reference to her celebrity life.

There’s no denying that the original cast of Mean Girls are irreplaceable and have become cult icons ever since. Lindsay Lohan was a teen star who starred in forgettable hits like Freaky Friday, Herbie, Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen, and Clueless. Mean Girls was one of her biggest claims to fame.

But, she has stayed away from the spotlight in regards to Mean Girls until the reboot musical. The actor returned for a cameo appearance alongside many of the original cast. The movie has since seen a divided response of praise and distaste as some didn’t know it was a musical and others relished in the fresh new cast.

But, at the end of the day, Mean Girls the musical did what no one should — insult Lindsay Lohan. A certain joke in the movie didn’t sit well with her, and millennials would know exactly why.

Mean Girls made a joke referring to Lindsay Lohan’s past

Lohan was disappointed when the movie had Megan Thee Stallion comment on Cady Heron’s talent show outfit saying, “Y2K fire crotch is back.”

The joke occurs when Cady, Regina, and the others are performing the infamous Christmas-themes talent show number. Regina falls hard on the floor resulting in her flashing the crowd. The moment goes viral on social media where Megan Thee Stallion makes the joke.

According to People, Lohan’s rep said that she was “very hurt and disappointed by the reference in the film.” Another source said she was “taken aback” by what she heard. The remark about “fire crotch” may bring back a few memories of a time when Lohan was constantly in the eye of the paparazzi.

The joke was in reference to a 2006 paparazzi video where oil heir Brandon Davis called Lohan a “fire crotch” as a way to insult her. To be fair, “fire crotch” was only part of the vulgar things he said. At the time, Lohan was very vocal about how the video made her feel leading to surprise among fans as to why it was included in the movie.

Tina Fey, who wrote the Mean Girls remake, hasn’t commented on the matter. Fey had previously expressed the process of bringing back the original cast. She explained she couldn’t fit all five of the original actors, but “felt like if I could only get one person as a surprise, the original movie is really Lindsay’s movie. As great as they all are, she’s the heart of that movie.”

She also explained that she had to write jokes differently from how she did back in the 2000s. A majority of the jokes in Mean Girls wouldn’t fly today. It leaves fans to question whether the “fire crotch” joke was intentional or an overlooked mistake.
