Mean Girls 2024 hits streaming without a joke that “hurt” original movie’s star

The 2024 Mean Girls remake will be released on streaming soon, and the version hitting Amazon Prime will not have a joke included that “hurt” Lindsay Lohan.

The 2024 Mean Girls remake was hit with mixed reviews on its release in January. The title has since come and gone from theaters following a marketing campaign that tried to distance itself from the fact that it was a musical.

The movie also ruffled a few people’s feathers from the original 2004 cast, notably its lead Lindsay Lohan. Lohan was included in a cameo in the 2024 version and also made an appearance at its red carpet premiere.

With the title making its way to streaming just over a month after releasing it to the world, the studio has decided to take out the line that offended Lohan.

The line in question was said by Megan Thee Stallion in support for Angourie Rice’s Cady in a montage sequence featuring Tiktok videos from various characters, prominent creators, and the rapper.

“We are going back red. Y2K fire crotch is back!” Megan said in the move.

Lohan’s representatives told media at the time that she was “very hurt and disappointed by the reference in the film.”

Lohan was famously called “fire crotch” by Brandon Davis in 2006 in a video that featured Paris Hilton laughing in the background.

The line has since been removed from the movie’s digital release, according to Variety. Megan now says: “We are going back red,” in that scene.

The move is another in a long line of changes made by companies post-content premiere, whether that be television, movies, or Super Bowl halftime shows.
