A Twitch viewer attending TheNicoleT’s meet-and-greet at TwitchCon was left mortified after learning the account he had been speaking to on X wasn’t actually her.

Fake accounts are an unfortunate reality of the internet that has been causing problems for years and one fan learned that the hard way while at TwitchCon.

Like many streamers, TheNicoleT held a meet-and-greet at the Las Vegas event to give fans a chance to get together in person and ask questions that might not ever be answered on stream.

During the event, a viewer approached and gave TheNicoleT a hug before asking about conversations the two had on X and was left devastated when he got some unfortunate news.

After the two embraced and the streamer admitted that the fan’s username “rang a bell,” the fan jumped to inquire about some of their private conversations.

“We’ve had some conversations here over Twitter, and I get a little paranoid, because maybe it’s not the real you,” he said showing a chat on his tablet. “But I think this is the real you.”

TheNicoleT had to crush his dreams by revealing that the person he was talking to was a catfish when she checked out the account in question.

“No, that is not,” Nicole said, much to the viewer’s shock as his mouth gasped wide in disbelief.

Luckily, the man claimed he didn’t say anything too bad while talking with the catfish, but the VOD has since been deleted and it’s unclear how the rest of their in-person chat went.

Unfortunately, fake accounts are expected to only get worse with the advancements in AI technology. In an interview with Dexerto, Catfish’s Nev Schulman warned that deepfakes will allow nefarious users to “create a human being.”
