Palworld has an “impossible to recover from” bug and devs are sounding the alarm

Palworld developers have identified a bug that could ruin your entire save. They’ve issued a stark warning against the use of certain items until it’s fixed.

Palworld has rocked the gaming industry and exploded in popularity to become one of the most concurrently played games on Steam. In a matter of days, it smashed records held by juggernauts like Hogwarts Legacy, Elden Ring, and the 2023 Game of the Year Baldur’s Gate 3.

The game has drawn some criticism from Pokemon fans for “ripping off” certain creature designs but the controversy hasn’t slowed it down. Unexpectedly racking up over 1 million players at a time, Palworld’s development team has had to have emergency meetings with Epic to address the strain on servers.

It’s a stellar start to Palworld’s early access period but while the game runs relatively smoothly, developer Pocketpair has uncovered a potentially save-ruining bug. Initially reported on Destructoid, the devs have cautioned against using the game’s Memory Reset Drug item until the bug is fixed.

The Memory Reset Drug is an item in Palworld that resets the player’s stats for reallocation and essentially functions as a respec. Unfortunately, a nasty bug can cause it to permanently reduce one of the game’s most important stats.

“Currently, using the item ‘Memory Reset Drug’ that resets the player’s status may reduce the player’s capture power and make it impossible to recover,” a Community Manager for Palworld explained on Discord.

Capture power does exactly what it says on the box and increases your odds of catching Pals in a Pal Sphere. It can be upgraded in the game using Lifmunk Effigies but losing those upgrades would be a massive blow and make certain late-game Pals nearly impossible to catch.

The team at Pocketpair is “currently investigating the issue” but in the meantime, they’ve advised caution regarding Palworld’s Memory Reset Drug. “Please refrain from using it until the investigation/correction is complete,” the Community Manager warned.

Here’s hoping that fix is a quick one. Palworld’s player base is a large one and not everyone is sure to see a Discord announcement.

Hopefully, only a few of the 4 million people who bought Palworld in its first 3 days have been caught out by this particular bug.
