Wit Studio is currently working on the One Piece anime remake project – and it might solve the biggest problem with the series.

One Piece is one of the most successful anime and manga franchises of all time. The series also received global recognition after Netflix adapted the East Blue Saga into a live-action version. Jump Festa 2024 made a major announcement about Netflix partnering with Wit Studio to create a One Piece remake.

The remake will also adapt the East Blue Saga, the first Saga of the series where Luffy begins his journey and gathers the best crew in the world. The adaptation is currently under production and has yet to reveal a release window.

Naturally, fans have mixed reactions about the remake. However, it’s still highly anticipated. While both studios are vastly different in their work, Wit Studio is still a reputable studio like Toei Animation. Here’s how Wit Studio can solve the biggest problem with One Piece.

Wit Studio might have a different pacing than the original One Piece anime

One of the biggest problems fans face with One Piece is the pacing. The anime has been adapting one chapter per episode for several years. Usually, an average anime episode will have at least three to four chapters within 20 minutes of screen time. However, since Wit Studio is currently working on the One Piece remake, it might do things differently than Toei Animation.

Wit Studio is also responsible for Jojo’s Bizzare Adventures. A Twitter user shared that the One Piece manga has more than 23,000 pages, while Jojo’s Bizzare Adventures has surpassed 25,000. However, the number of episodes varies significantly.

Toei’s legacy runs for decades and it thrived during the time when long-running series were a norm. Although the studio is still popular now, times have changed. Now, new-gen anime like Demon Slayer and Jujutsu Kaisen air every few years with new seasons. Each season has varying episodes ranging from 12 to 26. However, One Piece anime from Toei Animation has been continuously airing since 1999.

The East Blue Saga has 100 chapters in the manga and 53 episodes in the anime. Although Wit Studio has yet to announce the number of episodes, it surely won’t be as many as the original. If the studio decides to reduce the episodes, then the pacing might change for the better.

One Piece leaker Pewpiece shared: “About Onepiece new remake by Wit & Netflix. It will be a complete remake from East Blue with better pacing and will make a lot start One Piece!! It’s a dream coming true”

In another post, Pewpiece also shared: “Did you know that if One Piece received a well-paced adaptation by Wit Studio, the entire series could be adapted in 200-300 episodes only.”
