Though much of the game market has pivoted across to a digital format, there is still something special about physical copies. However, not all were created equal, and one player has found an exciting secret in the original installation discs for World of Warcraft.

Younger players may not remember the years when games had to be installed with three or more discs. Though some more modern games had to use two discs to store all of the installation information, it never goes beyond that, thanks to the increased storage on offer per disc.

In the early 2000s, however, plenty of games had to resort to using three or more, as the size of games rapidly outstripped our technological capability to store them. One of those was the original WoW, which came on four discs before eventually being forced to use a total of five.

Now, one player has discovered a nice little easter egg on the four-disc version that many may have missed at the time.

Titan Seal appeared on the original WoW install discs

In a post on Reddit, one user shared their discovery that, when the discs are arranged in an overlapping configuration, they form an illustration of a Titan Seal.

Though some may already be aware, it’s a testament to the design of all aspects of the original WoW that many still uncover secrets all these years later.

Many will have missed this hidden gem thanks to the complicated nature of the physical release of the original World of Warcraft. These discs actually come from the Collector’s Edition of the very first launch. Subsequent editions of the game had a further disc to account for additional content updates released in the intervening period.

With so many returning to Classic WoW when it arrived back in 2019, it’s a shame that it didn’t get a physical release. None of the subsequent versions received a physical copy either, though the game’s retail version includes physical items in more expensive editions.
