Belgian Valorant pro David “Davidp” Prins announced he has been benched by G2 following the squad’s upset at the First Stirke Europe tournament.

Despite a stellar showing at the European Ignition Series, G2 was upset by Team Heretics in First Strike, the team that would eventually go on to win the competition.

Davidp’s soon-to-be-former team has obviously wasted no time making changes, with the 26-year-old announcing in a Twitlonger that he is free to explore other options since he is currently inactive, but still under contract.

“The team needs a proper IGL and I respect their choice,” Davidp wrote. “I’ve done everything I could to make it work with them. I tried to be the IGL because we didn’t had one and to play all possible agents to suit the team.”

G2 were one of the favorite European Valorant teams headed into the First Strike tournament. As we mentioned, they had been dominant up to this point, but that was all bound to come to an end at the hands of Team Heretics.

While Heretics are now the EU team to beat, G2 has been left to pick up the pieces which apparently includes making some housekeeping changes.

While Davidp was the first member of the initial team to be cut, there’s no telling whether or not he’ll be the last, or who G2 will bring on to sign him.

The good news is that there’s no shortage of young up-and-coming Valorant talent to choose from in the European scene, so it will be interesting to see which direction the Spanish org decides to go as we head into the new year.

Things may have gotten off to a hot start in 2020 for Valorant esports, but 2021 promises to be even bigger (who knows? Maybe we’ll actually get to see an actual live event), so stick with Dexerto for all of the latest news, updates and more.
